吉普賽人自西元八、九世紀由印度半島北方遷徙出來，流浪千年，足跡遍及各大洲。當他們在世界各地開枝散葉時，也從世界各地擷取了豐富的音樂資源，為吉普賽音樂注入新鮮的在地元素；而浪漫、輕盈，卻又帶點輕淺的哀愁，則是吉普賽音樂的共通情感。

傳統樂器匈牙利揚琴又稱為「欽巴隆揚琴」（Cimbalom），為吉普賽音樂常用的樂器，急促清脆的音色與其他樂器相互應和，揉合出濃郁吉普賽色彩的旋律。本場音樂會，NSO邀來曾由名指揮蕭提欽點上台的匈牙利揚琴演奏家寇帕欽斯基，上半場演出多首炫技獨奏曲，下半場推出索寇洛夫及高大宜的曲目；寇帕欽斯基將用他出神入化的技巧，召喚音樂中的吉普賽情懷，敲擊來自異鄉的熱情。

Gypsies emerged from the northern region of the Indian subcontinent in the 8th and 9th centuries, wandering for a thousand years and blazing a trail through continents. In the process, they picked up diverse folk influences, which enriched their passionate music. World music in the hands of the nomadic people took on a refreshing style, that was romantic, nimble and mournfully sad.

The traditional Hungarian dulcimer called cimbalom compliments other musical instruments in the frenzied and light music-making among gypsies. The NSO has invited Kopatchinski to play the cimbalom at this concert. Hungarian-born conductor Georg Solti once asked him to make music on the horizontal stringed instrument on the stage.

The first half of the program will consist of solo selections for Kopatchinski to flaunt his virtuosity. The second half will see him shine in performances of I. Sokolov's Ein Blick auf die Zeit im Jahr 2000 for Cimbalom, Violin and Chamber Orchestra and, of course, Z. Kodaly's Hary Janos Suite.
