Is that incessant1 ring interrupting2
conversation3? It's happening all over
Taiwan-cell phones are as common4 as
scooters5. Only the very youngest don't
own one. And just like children, we need to learn some manners6
for our "toys". So here are some 'dos and don'ts' of cell
phone use:
* When you're in class, at a movie theater, or in any social7
situation8, turn your phone off. Voice
mail will take care of your calls.
* If you're expecting9 an important
call, then set the ringer10 to vibrate11,
so you don't disturb12 others. Excuse
yourself before you answer.
* Be considerate13 and speak quietly.
* Don't talk while driving-it's dangerous. In fact, it's illegal
in Taiwan.
* It's an expensive way to communicate14,
so try to be brief15.
With these tips in mind, hopefully we'll all avoid awkward16
apologies17 in the future.
