Beijing
asks for charter cargo flights across Strait
Beijing is expected to announce a new policy
about cross-Straits cargo charter flights
in a major effort to push for direct air
links with Taiwan. The plans will be made
known at a regular press conference to be
held by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the
State Council. They follow the successful
operation of non-stop cross-Straits passenger
charter flights for this year's Spring Festival
holidays.
UK
looks for profits from English
British finance minister Gordon Brown has
mentioned that exporting the English language
and methods of learning could soon become
one of the UK's top foreign currency earners,
with China viewed as the key market. In
the past five years, British export earnings
through education have almost doubled to
more than 10 billion pounds(US$19 billion)
a year. This was already about 1 percent
of Britain's entire GDP, and four percent
of its exports, and the figures are still
growing fast.
