Taiwanese
Carriers to Resume Direct Korea Flights
Taiwan's airlines will resume direct flights
to Korea in March to reciprocate a similar
move by Korea's carriers. China Airlines,
Evergreen Air, Far Eastern Air and Uni Air
will operate Taiwan-Korea direct flights
from March 1, after Korean Air and Asiana
Airlines resumed direct flights last December,
12 years after the service was discontinued
in 1992, when the two nations severed diplomatic
relations.
World
population to hit 9 billion
The world's population will surge from 6.5billion
to more than 9 billion by 2050, the UN has
predicted, with almost all the growth in
developing countries. Although birth rates
in the developed world are low and declining,
the population in the 50 least developed
nations is expected to double, leading to
9.1billion people on the planet. Fertility
rates in most developed nations have been
declining and 51 nations, including Germany,
Italy, Japan and the former Soviet Union,
will have fewer people than in 2005.
