How Low Is Enough? |
The smallest amount that a worker can be paid is called the minimum wage. It's an important number because it affects the quality of life of millions of workers around the world.
Every country has a different minimum wage. Politicians use the cost of living to set it. They ask, "How much does a worker need to make ends meet?" The problem is that the situation is always changing. Sometimes the costs of food, gas, and rent go up but the minimum wage stays the same. This can make it hard on workers.
Politicians don't like raising the minimum wage because they feel it hurts businesses, which need to pay more for their workers. However, many disagree with this. They say that a higher minimum wage puts more money in everyone's pocket. That means people spend more,
and the economy improves as a result.
