  On the Indonesian island of Java, there is an active stratovolcano called Mount Merapi. Because of its frequent eruptions and the fact that many people live close to it, it is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world.
   The name Merapi means “Mountain of Fire” in the local language, and many of the nearby inhabitants see it as a sacred place. Many believe that the volcano is __1__ the spirits of their ancestors. Mount Merapi is also a source of fertile soil, water, and natural resources for the surrounding communities, which depend on agriculture and tourism for their livelihoods

   Every July 4, thousands of Americans gather on the beach at Coney Island in New York City. They do not visit for American Independence Day, though. They come to witness the world-famous Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.
   The goal of the contest is to determine which contestant can devour the most hot dogs in 10 minutes. Eaters must finish the entire hot dog and bun for it to count. Contestants are allowed to dip the buns in water, which makes them easier to swallow. The current men's record holder, Joey Chestnut, managed to consume 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. This amounted to around 20,000 calories consumed in such a short period.
