In recent years, a continuing trend of rising temperatures has been recorded around the globe. While this has had various effects on the Earth's weather patterns, the most apparent impact is extreme heat. Events such as heat waves, which are long stretches of dangerously high temperatures, have become more common. They are often made worse by heat domes, which occur when high-pressure systems trap hot air over a region.
