Rock and Roll
  Kings and 1)invaders !

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.
Elvis Presley is often called the King of Rock and Roll, because he was one of the first popular rock-and-roll musicians in America.
1) invader  (n.)
The invaders attacked(攻擊) and killed many people.
2.
Rock and roll was a new kind of music in the 1950s; it 2)combined jazz music with country and blues. Some older people considered Elvis 3)rebellious and did not 4)approve of his new, 5)energetic music. However, Elvis 6)maintained his 7)popularity for 8)decades and continues to be popular with fans today.
2) combine  (v.)
This candy combines peanut butter(花生醬) and chocolate(巧克力).
3) rebellious  (a.)

4) approve  (v.)

7) popularity  (n.) 流行性

8) decade  (n.) 十年

3.
Another big event in rock-and-roll history was the British 9)invasion. This was what people called the arrival of the rock-and-roll group The Beatles in America. John, Paul, George and Ringo, the four 10)members of the band, brought a new and exciting form of rock and roll to America, and the world.
9) invasion  (n.) 入侵
The United States'  invasion of Iraq(伊拉克) began in 2003.
10) member  (n.) 成員

4.
Like Elvis before them, The Beatles were considered rebellious by some of the older
11)generation, and young people were often 12)discouraged by their parents from listening to The Beatles and other rock-and-roll groups. Some people started to say “n” instead of “and,” and “rock ’n’ roll” became a common phrase to 13)describe music by rock-and-roll groups and artists of the 1950s, 1960s and on.
11) generation  (n.) 世代
I don't like the music of my parents'  generation.
12) discourage  (v.)
Don't discourage me from following my dreams.
13) describe  (v.)
Could you describe the man who stole(偷) your wallet(皮夾)?
5.
Rock and roll had started as a music that many saw as rebellious, but as the children of the 50s and 60s became 14)adults in the 80s, rock ’n’ roll was no longer so discouraged. Instead, the parents would often 15)encourage their children to listen to artists like Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, and Little Richard, or groups like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Rolling Stones. As a result of this change of opinion in society, rock ’n’ roll became one of the most popular music styles with fans of all ages.
14) adult  (n.) 成人
Adults sometimes act like children.
15) encourage  (v.)
I encourage you to get a better job.
6.
Today, when a rock-and-roll group or artist is not very popular with the 16)majority of people, we call that music “rock”; when a rock’n’roll artist or group has a style that 17)appeals to the majority, we call that music “pop-rock”—“pop” is from “popular.”
16) majority  (n.) 多數
The majority of people don't smoke.
17) appeal to  吸引
Does this type of movie appeal to you?
6.
Michael Jackson has often used rock-and-roll music in some of his songs, so many people say that he is not just a pop star, but a pop-rock star as well. Jackson has been called the King of Pop; maybe he has created a new kind of music for his generation, just as Elvis did in his own time.
