█ 簡化的副詞子句 (Reduced Adverbial Clauses)
新聞英文寫作時為了精簡句型和濃縮資訊，有些意義重複或沒有實質意義的元素都可以省略。
□ Backed by an international marketing campaign, Sentosa Cove homes are nearly sold out. (Time)（由於國際行銷活動的支撐，升濤灣的住宅幾乎銷售一空。）
此句是過去分詞的分詞構句，原句應為較冗長的 Because Sentosa Cove homes are backed by an international marketing campaign, they are nearly sold out. 且因為句意已經很明顯地表達出這是具有因果關係的句型，因此連接詞 because 也可以省略。

█ 直接和間接引述 (Direct and Indirect Quotations)
為了強調報導的客觀性和正確性，新聞報導經常需要引述消息來源，因此在新聞英文寫作上就會大量使用直接和間接引述的句型。
□ 直接引述時需要加上引號 (quotation marks)。有時候同一段話也可以分開引述。另外，在直接引述消息來源時也常用〈...quoted + 消息來源 + as saying〉（主動語態）或使用〈消息來源 + was / were quoted as saying〉（被動語態）作為固定套語。
□ 間接引述無須對消息來源的言論原文照錄，而是做一種概括性的摘要，寫作上也不用加上引號。另一種引述消息來源或新聞機構時的特殊句構，是使用「逗號」來隔開新聞事件和消息來源，形成兩個子句，而且習慣省略掉日期或星期前面的介系詞。

□ postpone ... until... 是「將⋯延到⋯」之意。
