老外說”You’re full of it.”是讚美你，還是駡你？
Michael和外籍老闆聽了一家新創公司的pitch之後，他問老闆覺得如何。
老闆回答：
＂That’s just a lot of hot air.＂
“Hot air?” 難道是天氣太熱了嗎？還是氣氛太熱絡？Michael搞不清楚老闆是什麼意思。今天來看看air的道地用法。
1. That’s just a lot of hot air.
（Ｘ）就是天氣太熱了。
（Ｏ）就是一堆空話／簡直是胡扯。
Hot air是指「大話，吹牛，誇誇其談」。
Hot air，字面上是「熱空氣」，形容冗長的話猶如一陣熱空氣，膨脹並且不實際。例如：
• I’ve heard enough of your hot air. 你的大話我已經聽夠了。
• If she says that, she’s full of hot air. 要是她那樣說，那她是在吹牛。
在口語中，Hot air有時會被簡化，用 it 代替，”full of hot air”就成了”full of it”。例如：
• Don't listen to a word he says, he's full of it. 別相信他說的任何一句話，他都是胡亂吹噓。
對話情境：
A: Do you believe him? 你相信他嗎？
B: I think he's full of it. 我覺得他胡說八道。
2. We held a meeting to clear the air.
（Ｘ）我們開了一次和空氣清淨相關的會議。
（Ｏ）我們開了一次會來消除誤解。
Clear the air字面意思是「清新空氣」的意思，在對話中，經常用它的引申意思，指「消除隔閡、誤會的意思」。
• I had a massive argument with Michael, but at least it has cleared the air.我和麥可大吵了一 場，不過這至少消除了誤解。
• The team had a team-building workshop to clear the air and improve communication among members. 團隊舉辦了團隊建設工作營，以消除誤會並改善成員之間的溝通。
3. Don't give yourself airs.
（Ｘ）別吸氣。
（Ｏ）別擺架子。
Air原意是「空氣」，不可數名詞。它也可以當「神情、樣子」，特別是指「做作的樣子」，是可數。例如：
• He came into the room with an air of importance. 他帶著一副了不起的神情走進房間。
Don’t give yourself airs.裡的airs就是指「裝腔作勢、擺架子、矯揉造作」。
也可以用”airs and graces”，意思差不多。例如：
• He was always putting on airs and graces. 他總是裝腔作勢，故作姿態。
