A Day to Make a Difference¡@°µ¨Ç§ïÅܪº¤é¤l
by Leigh Goldberg |
Volunteers hit the streets on this special day to show how much they care.

¡@¡@Most of us are preoccupied with our daily routines. _(1)_ All of this is centered on what we want, but not everyone in the world has it so easy. In fact, millions of people don't have the means to put food on the table, clothes on their backs, or roofs over their heads. _(2)_ Thankfully, USA WEEKEND Magazine is trying to make things right.
¡@¡@In 1992, the national weekly magazine created Make A Difference Day. _(3)_ Students, families, church groups, clubs, corporations, and even celebrities do their part to help make a difference in their communities. _(4)_ What's more, 10 national honorees and three city awardees each receive US$10,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice.
¡@¡@However, most of the three million volunteers who took part in 2011 activities will tell you that they don't mind the hard work involved. _(5)_ So what are you waiting for? Learn who needs help in your community and start making a difference today.
(A) Celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday in October, it is the biggest day of individuals doing good and volunteering in the US.
(B) This can be anything from cleaning the streets, feeding the hungry, and repairing homes to raising money for charity.
(C) Mothers make meals for their families, children make messes at home and school, and fathers make money to support their sons and daughters.
(D) They are actually doing something to make the world a better place and not just wishing for things to improve.
(E) Non-profit organizations do their best to help, but it's not enough. |
