Tom: This year flew by. I'm not ready for a new year.
Jack: Why not? I'm excited about it!
Tom: Well, I started this year with a list.
Jack: Was it your list of resolutions?
Tom: Right. I wanted to do many things this year.
Jack: What is on the list?
Tom: "I will be on time. I will help others more. I will read more books...."
Jack: Wow. You have 25 things on your list. That's a lot of resolutions!
Tom: Yes, but I didn't keep most of them. I'm still late to work. I didn't help other people very much. I also didn't read more books. I was just lazy. I wasted a whole year. I didn't keep any of my resolutions!
Jack: Well, you could do one resolution this week. Do you want to do it?
Tom: Sure. Which resolution?
Jack: Helping others. Pam, Amy and I are going to a homeless shelter tomorrow. Do you want to come with us?
Tom: Yes, but what will we do there?
Jack: We will serve food to poor people. We can sit and talk with them. The people there are lonely.
Tom: We can go cheer them up!
湯姆：今年時間飛逝一轉眼就過去了。我還沒準備好迎接新的一年呢。
傑克：為什麼？我對新的一年感到很興奮呢！
湯姆：因為，今年開始時，我列了一張清單。
傑克：是你新年新計畫的清單嗎？
湯姆：對，我今年立志要做好多事情。
傑克：上面寫了什麼？
湯姆：「我要準時。我要更多幫助別人。我要讀更多書...」
傑克：哇，你的單子上有二十五件要做的事吔，你的新年新計畫真多！
湯姆：是啊，但是其中大部分我都沒做到。我上班還是會遲到，我沒有經常幫助別人，也沒有讀更多書。我真的好懶惰。我把一整年都浪費了，我訂的計畫一樣也沒做到！
傑克：其實，你這個禮拜可以執行一項你的新年計畫，你想做嗎？
湯姆：當然囉，什麼計畫？
傑克：幫忙他人。潘、愛咪和我明天要去一所遊民庇護中心，你想跟我們去嗎？
湯姆：好，可是我們去那裡要做什麼？
傑克：我們會為貧窮的人端上食物。我們也可以坐下，跟他們聊聊，那裡的人都很寂寞。
湯姆：我們可以讓他們開心起來！
