Jenny：Look at all this: china, silver, and beautiful linens! It feels like I'm having tea with the Queen in Buckingham Palace! Anne, you should have told us this was going to be a formal tea party, so Roger and I wouldn't have come in T-shirt and jeans.
Anne：Oh, I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable about the setting. Don't worry. This is a casual gathering, and we're just going to have a relaxing time and a nice chat.
Roger：Did you buy all these from Britain? They're very beautiful.
Anne：I collected most of them while living in England. The china tea set was a farewell gift from my landlady. We used to have afternoon tea together.
Jenny：Do people really have afternoon tea everyday in Britain?
Anne：I think so. Tea is as important to British people as coffee is to North Americans. (The kettle is whistling.) Excuse me. The water is boiling.
Jenny：看看這些東西：瓷器、銀器，和美麗的亞麻桌巾！我好像來到白金漢宮和女王喝茶喔！安，你應該先告訴我這是很正式的下午茶會，這樣我和羅傑就不會只穿著T恤和牛仔褲就來了。
Anne：噢，我不是故意要讓你們覺得不自在。不要擔心啦，這不是什麼正式的聚會，我們不過就是放鬆一下，聊聊天而已。
Roger：你這些東西是在英國買嗎？很漂亮耶！
Anne：大部分都是我住在英國時收集的。這個瓷製茶具組，是房東太太給我的送別禮物，我們以前常一起喝下午茶。
Jenny：英國的人每天都喝下午茶嗎？
Anne：應該是吧，茶對英國人來說，就像咖啡對北美人來說那麼重要。（水壺發出鳴笛音）不好意思，水滾了。
Anne：What kind of tea would you like? I've got Earl Grey, Darjeeling, and Orange Pekoe. Or would you prefer fruit and herbal tea? I can make two different pots if you'd like.
Roger：Do you have any decaffeinated tea? I've been trying to cut down on my intake of caffeine these days.
Anne：Sure. No problem. I'll make a pot of decaf tea for you. Jenny：I'll have Darjeeling. How much should I put in the pot? I usually use tea bags so the leaves don't get everywhere.
Anne： Roughly one teaspoon per cup. I prefer loose tea leaves because they make the tea less bitter. We can use the strainer for the leaves later. OK. Help yourself to the food.
Roger：What did you put in these ham sandwiches? They're good!
Anne：Just a touch of English mustard. Try the smaller ones. They're cucumber sandwiches, typical food for English tea.
Jenny：You have to give me the recipe for the scones. They're fantastic!
Anne：These cream scones do taste better with some extra dried fruit, don't they? Well, I think the tea is ready. Do you take milk in your tea, Roger?
Roger：Yes. And sugar, please.
Anne：How about you, Jenny?
Jenny：I'm lactose intolerant. A slice of lemon will be fine.
Anne：你喜歡什麼樣的茶？我有伯爵茶、大吉嶺、橙色白毫。還是你喜歡花果茶？我可以泡兩壺不同口味的。
Roger：你有不含咖啡因的茶嗎？我最近想減少咖啡因的攝取量。
Anne：有啊，沒問題，我會幫你泡一壺低咖啡因的茶。 Jenny：我要大吉嶺茶，要放多少進去？我自己通常是用茶包，這樣茶葉才不會撒得到處都是。
Anne： 通常泡一杯用一茶匙，我比較喜歡用茶葉泡，喝起來比較不苦。我們等一下可以用濾網過濾茶葉。好，想吃什麼自己來喔！
Roger：你火腿三明治裡用了什麼料啊？真好吃耶！
Anne：只是放了一些英式芥末，嚐嚐這個比較小的吧，這些小黃瓜三明治是英式下午茶的典型食物。
Jenny：你一定要給我司康餅的食譜喔，真是太好吃了！
Anne：這些奶油司康加了水果乾就更好吃了，對吧？我想茶已經好了，你要加牛奶嗎，羅傑？
Roger：好啊，我還要加糖！
Anne：珍妮，你呢？
Jenny：我對乳糖過敏，我要一片檸檬就可以了！
