of Fire and Light
November is a time of earlier nights.
Luckily, there are plenty of festivals this month that celebrate
light and fire, driving away the cold and dark. Are you ready to
warm up with a world tour of fiery festivals?
In India, Diwali is a festival of lights
that lasts for five days. People set off fireworks in the streets
to drive away demons. At night, small clay lamps glow in house
windows to show that good and light will always win over evil
and darkness.
Thailand also has a festival of lights.
Small rafts carrying food, flowers, and candles are built by
hand. You can make a wish as you light the candle and the raft
floats away on the river. The beauty of thousands of candles
on the dark river is an immediate gift in return.
