Strength from Within
When the alarm goes off in the morning, you open your eyes, check the weather outside, and look at yourself in the mirror as you brush your teeth. This is the morning routine for many people. For the visually impaired, however, every day is filled with the challenge of living in a dark or blurry world.
Zhuang Jing-Jie(莊靜潔), who started losing her eyesight when she was thirteen, can only see about ten centimeters beyond her nose. She describes her world as “foggy, as though you were eating hot, steaming noodles with your glasses on.”
Although the problems with her eyes pushed obstacles in front of her, Zhuang refused to let them stop her from succeeding in her studies. She used a telescope to read the blackboard and a magnifying glass for her textbooks. Although she had to work harder than most of her classmates, she still did very well on the university entrance exam.
