A Creative Look at the Facts
Creative problem solving can be a great help in school
and life, but is shutting out all distractions the best way to improve this
skill? Scientists at Harvard and the University of Toronto say no.
Out of 100 students tested, those who got the highest
creativity scores usually had the lowest focus scores. Because they are
less able to control their attention, they are more likely to come across
original ideas. This doesn't mean that the best way to take a test is to
daydream, though. Inattention only leads to creativity when you take the
time to think about and develop those stray thoughts.
