Jungfrau—The Top of Europe
It is said that if you haven't been to the
Jungfrau, you haven't been to Switzerland. At 4,158 meters, this
mountain is taller than Jade Mountain. In fact, it is the third highest
peak in central Switzerland. Its snowy slopes form an impressive wall
against a crisp blue sky. It seems pure and inaccessible. This is
probably how it got the name Jungfrau, which is German for maiden.
Though tall, the peak of the Jungfrau can be
approached easily. A series of trains will take you from Interlaken to
the heights of the Jungfrau in only two and a half hours. Begun in 1896,
the building of the Jungfrau railway took sixteen years to complete. It's
difficult not to admire the determination of the people who built the railway.
歐洲之巔——少女峰
據說你若沒去過少女峰，就不算到過瑞士。這座山有四千一百五十八公尺高，比玉山還高。事實上，它是瑞士中部第三高峰。其積雪的山坡在清新的藍天映襯下形成一堵壯觀的牆。它似乎純淨而難以接近。這可能是它得到Jungfrau（德文的「少女」）這個名字的原因。
