One Exciting Day in Singapore
Singapore is a meeting place of many cultures and international flavors. With plenty to see and eat, the city seems to have something for everyone.
My own trip began with breakfast at Lau Pa Sat, which means “old market.” At this hawker center, open-air buildings house food stalls that offer a variety of cheap, delicious dishes. The center is in the financial district, so the streets were filled with businesspeople. Most of them were hurrying to work, so I had the entire market practically to myself. I chose congee, a traditional Cantonese dish and the best comfort food, for my breakfast. The hot bowl of soupy rice with shredded pork and a century egg was the perfect morning wake-up call.
Next, I headed to Little India. The old temples and churches here were a direct contrast to the new skyscrapers of the business center. Still, it was the food that stood out the most. My plate of curry was as red as the roofs above. The smell of freshly ground spices filled the air even before the dish reached my table. The rich taste of each bite only made me want more.

新加坡是許多文化和國際特色的交匯處。由於有很多可以欣賞和品嚐的東西,這座城市似乎能滿足每個人。
我個人的旅程由老巴剎的早餐開始,老巴剎的意思是「舊市場」。在這個攤販中心,露天的建築內有各種物美價廉的小吃攤。這個中心位處金融區,因此街道上到處都是商務人士。他們大多趕著去上班,所以我幾乎是獨享了整個市場。我早餐選擇吃粥,這是一道傳統的廣式料理,也是最好的慰藉食物。用這碗配上豬肉絲和皮蛋的熱稀飯來喚醒一天的開始最理想不過了。
接著,我前往小印度。這裡的古老廟宇和教堂與商業中心嶄新的摩天大樓形成直接對比。儘管如此,還是食物最引人注目。我盤中的咖哩和頭上的屋頂一樣紅。甚至在餐點送上桌前,空氣中就充滿了新鮮現磨的香料氣味。每一口濃郁的滋味都讓我意猶未盡。
