媽祖小傳
　　相傳媽祖為福建省湄州人，出生於唐玄宗天寶元年三月二十三日，她的父親名叫林愿，為人敦厚樸實、樂善好施，鄉里都尊稱他為『林善人』。林愿娶妻後生下一男五女。林氏夫妻深感男丁單薄，且長男身體虛弱，於是便朝夕焚香，祈求觀世音菩薩再賜一男。某天晚上，林善人的妻子睡夢中見到觀世音菩薩賜她一粒藥丸，對她說：『你們林家世世代代行善積德，所以可獲上天庇佑。妳服下這粒藥丸，便可得到一女，她將來能渡天下蒼生，成就非凡。』林夫人於是將藥丸服下，沒多久便生下了媽祖。媽祖出生時完全沒有哭鬧，因此取名默娘。默娘非常聰明，自小就知道拜佛，且常有莫名的感應。默娘終生未嫁，某日安詳莊穆地坐在椅子上辭世，當時她還不到三十歲，從此人們就常看到她顯靈的事蹟。人們原常尊稱她為『天后』或『天妃娘娘』，但泉、漳、潮州一帶的人則習慣稱她為媽祖，如此聽來較為親切且平易近人。
