The Magic of Comic Books

Comic books are not just easy books for kids. In both the East and the West, they are now a part of our culture. They provide heroes for movies and figurines that are more art than toy. In fact, comic books are more respected than ever by young and old alike.

In Japan, elementary school textbooks use manga to help teach lessons. In addition, a university in Kyoto has a Manga Department. Students who take a class in that department will likely have Astro Boy on their reading list. It debuted about sixty years ago and was the first Japanese comic that became world famous.
